About the Artist
C.E. Whitney

1946–2024

Born in Toronto, Canada, the late C.E. Whitney moved to the Cayman Islands in the 1970s. She graduated from City Lit, London, with a diploma in Art & Design, and continued her studies at the Academy of Realistic Art, Toronto, Canada, developing her signature photorealist technique over several years. Whitney exhibited her work extensively in the Cayman Islands and abroad, including London, Berlin, New York, and Miami from 1990-2021. In 2024, Carolyn was honoured on Hero’s Day with a posthumous Cultural Luminary award, recognising her efforts in promoting Caymanian Culture, heritage and identity through demonstrated and consistent excellence in the creative arts. As well as being included in Art of the Cayman Islands, the islands’ first formal art history (Scala Fine Art Publishers Ltd., Fall 2016), Whitney’s work was featured in the NGCI exhibitions All Access (2015), Pop & the Popular (2022), and Thatch Roofs & Ironwood Posts: The Art and Artistry of the Caymanian Home (2024).
