About the Artist
Maureen Lazarus
Maureen Lazarus is a Caymanian artist whose practice encompasses painting, collage, and works on paper. Trained at Edna Manley School of Visual Arts and St Joseph’s Teachers College in Jamaica, Lazarus worked for 20 years designing and painting billboards and commercial signs throughout Jamaica, while also completing portraits, landscapes, and commissioned works as a fine artist. Her work has been exhibited at The Gallery at The Ritz-Carlton — Grand Cayman, The Westin and Grand Old House, Grand Cayman, as well as for the Art in the Park series at the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park. Environmental stewardship and sustainability are important themes for Lazarus, both personally and in her artistic practice, where the use of found or previously discarded materials points to the critical need for preserving Cayman’s precious natural resources. Her work was exhibited at NGCI in All Access (2015), Revive: Contemporary Caymanian Craft (2017), and Cross Currents – 1st Cayman Islands Biennial (2019).
