Cayman Parrot
This image of a Cayman parrot is striking both in scale and visual complexity. Composed out of an assortment of postage stamps — many of them featuring scenes of Cayman’s maritime history — Laurenson’s work recalls the lost tradition of letter writing which was once the only means of communication for relatives of Caymanian men away at sea. As the national bird of the Cayman Islands, the Cayman parrot is moreover an indelible symbol of our cultural heritage and identity.
