Cement Wall with Bougainvilla
Brezinski’s image of a gate and boundary wall, marking the entrance to an expansive garden, has all the hallmarks of the realist aesthetic that dominated art in Cayman in the 1980s and 1990s. The abundance of tropical foliage, and in particular the riotous pink flowers of Bougainvilla spilling over the garden wall, combine to create a sense of beauty and stillness, while also emphasising the artist’s interest in recording the small details of island life.
