This delicate pencil study of tropical marine life — a sea turtle and school of Angelfish — reflects the artist’s abiding interest in environmental themes. Bernard’s representational style emphasises the realistic treatment of his subject: a key aspect of his traditional fine art training, as well as the artist’s own practice as a secondary school art teacher.
About the Artist
Joseph Bernard
Joseph Bernard was born in Peachtree City, Georgia and studied Fine Arts and English at the University of Mississippi from 1993–1998. He taught art in Grand Cayman between 2007 and 2013, before which he worked as a freelance photographer and writer while teaching art in Malawi, Central Africa. Bernard’s work featured in the NGCI exhibition All Access in 2015.
