Mangroves with Boat
Abbott’s interest in her chosen subject — a small cluster of mangroves at the water’s edge — is reflected in her attention to observational detail, using a mottled technique to capture the delicate pattern of leaves, in contrast to the solidity of the trees’ trunks and tangled roots. The scene is given a focal point through the empty wooden rowboat tethered to the shore, a frequent sight along Grand Cayman’s sheltered shoreline.
