Master Fisher
This work was created for NGCI’s 2016 exhibition Native Sons: Twenty Years On — a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the artist collective’s founding in 1996. Employing the artist’s favoured collage technique, Suckoo Chollette creates a surreal vision of a voluptuous female figure, reflecting the broader shift in her practice towards non-literal and highly symbolic modes of representation. The artist further comments that Master Fisher expresses conflicting feelings of inadequacy and delusions of grandeur, as well as our inability “to see the value of other people’s truth”.
