Pines on the Beach
This watercolour depicts the Island’s picturesque shoreline and the changing colours of the Caribbean Sea, in keeping with the prevailing realist aesthetic that dominated art in Cayman in the 1980s and 1990s. Griggs was one of a number of artists, including Joanne Sibley, Janet Walker, and Debbie van der Bol, whose work gained immense popular appeal during this period. This particular image captures a stretch of Casuarina pines as they appeared before the damage caused by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
