Untitled (Cayman Parrots)
This study features the Cayman Islands’ national bird, the Cayman parrot. Endemic to Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac, these parrots are a subspecies of the Cuban parrot, and can be easily identified by their bright green plumage, white eye rings, pale beaks, red cheeks, and blue flight feathers. Although now sequestered to two islands, the Cayman Brac Parrot once inhabited Little Cayman, but was wiped out in the Storm of 1932 – a category 4 hurricane that caused widespread destruction across our islands. Today, the Cayman Parrot is a protected species under the National Conservation Law.
About the Artist
Yonier Powery
