The Community Connections programme was developed in 2021 to provide community partners with increasingly in-demand artistic support, activities and tours, providing a platform for greater public access to the arts and its benefits. Thanks to the generous support of Maples Group, the National Gallery is able to offer a space where participants can learn more about local culture and heritage while engaging in creative expression regardless of their personal circumstances.
Currently participating in the programme are Bonaventure Boys Home, Frances Bodden Children’s Home, Sunrise Adult Training Centre, the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre, one2one, Acts of Random Kindness, and the Department of Children and Family Services. Workshops take both a therapeutic and skill-development approach to visual art, with this year’s topics including colour mixing, kinaesthetic painting, ceramics, landscape painting, affirmation lettering and pattern-making.
Check out some scenes from the 2024 programme below, with sincere thanks to Maples Group for making these community sessions possible.
