Festive Cheer at the National Gallery’s Artisan Fair and Family Fun Day
The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) has welcomed Caymans’ top artisans to a special art fair this Saturday, 10 December from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The NGCI Christmas Artisans’ Gift Fair is set to take place in the lower exhibition hall at the National Gallery and features a wide variety of locally made items. Highlights include, bespoke jewellery by Bee Line Designs, fine crafted wood carvings by Len Layman, traditional thatch crafts by Lizzie Powell, local art prints and photographs, and local publications such as the NGCI’s brand new The Art of the Cayman Islands.
The Christmas Artisan’s Gift Fair will also feature a variety of family fun activities including a ceramic ornament painting workshop (on the hour at 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM with a small materials fee starting at $5 per person), in addition to a free Christmas card station and special storytelling sessions by the talented Cayman Brac native Martin Keely (10:30 AM, 11:30 AM and 12:30 AM). These fun engaging storytelling sessions will take place within an inflatable shark!
“This is a great opportunity to take a break from your busy schedule to spend quality time with your family, to get creative for Christmas and to support local artisans. Kids can take home their creations the very same day as we’ll be using special non-fire glazes,” notes NGCI Education Intern Jessica Ebanks.
Refreshments will be served by the NGCI Art Café. In addition to healthy snacks and beverages the Art Café will feature a special s ’mores station where visitors can build their own s ‘mores and cook them over an outdoor fire. A hot chocolate station will also be set up including all of the festive toppings such as marshmallows, cinnamon and more!
Admission the NGCI Christmas Artisan’s Gift Fair is free of charge and funds raised help to support our local crafters as well as free admission and free public programming at the National Gallery. NGCI Members are invited to special preview event and Christmas Party the evening before, 9 December 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
