Day 1 (3 February)

We’ll visit the exhibition to discuss the aesthetic of the black mangrove vases, how they’ve been conceived and created. We’ll discuss the hand-building process and techniques used to achieve this specific aesthetic. Next, we’ll begin the practical work by wedging, carving, and manipulating clay to build the vase.

Day 2 (17 February)

After a short introduction to the use of slips and oxides to create texture and colour, we’ll apply slips and washes to the bisque fired vases.  A group feedback and discussion session will follow the glazing process. Finished pieces can be collected after the second firing.
