Now on display in the NGCI Dart Auditorium and Community Gallery – Kosen – works by photographer John Davies’s documentation of the extensive five-year process a young Japanese woman undertakes from maiko to becoming a respected geisha. The exhibition takes its name from Davies’ first photographic publication, and subject Kosen.

Davies’ fascination for Japanese culture has led him to becoming an avid collector of rare classical Japanese vintage prints and photography books. Currently in his 80s, Davies has produced a publication of photographs that showcase his love for the culture, of which a limited number are available for purchase in the NGCI Store for CI $35. The exhibition is on display from 7 November 2016 until 3 December 2016. An opening reception will be held 16 November at 5:30 PM. Admission is free. All are welcome.
