Description

A Summer of Art • Action Painting
15 August 2017, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

In this activity students will learn how to make drawings and paintings that show action and energy through the process of continuous mark making. This is a two-part activity which starts with students making automative drawings, which are drawings that are made when students draw continuously for two minutes without letting their pencil leave the paper. The students will practice this type of mark making for three different drawings. They will then take a break and take a tour of the Gallery’s lower exhibition hall and permanent collection. After the tour, students will return to the studio and make an action painting. This activity is inspired by artists like Andre Masson and Jackson Pollack who used action drawing and painting techniques to create energetic artworks.
