A Summer of Art: Frottage Images
06:00 pm-08:00 pmDescription
A Summer of Art • Frottage Images
27 July 2017, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
In this activity students will be experimenting with a drawing technique called “frottage”. This technique is used to obtain textures from various elements or found objects. The technique is made by taking a piece of paper, placing that piece of paper on the selected surface and rubbing a graphite pencil on the paper to collect the impression of the surface. This activity is inspired by American artist, Max Ernest. Ernest frequently traveled and used frottage to collect notes on surface textures from things he found interesting. He then used his collected textures to create new drawings that resemble fantastical creatures. The goal of this activity is to teach students to identify the relationship between texture and mark marking. We would also like for students to learn new ways to develop interesting drawings and collage works.
