A Summer of Art: Fun with Clay
06:00 pm-08:00 pmDescription
A Summer of Art • Fun with Clay
11 July 2017, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
In this activity students will be making objects and fantastical creatures with clay. The gallery instructors will teach the students some basic techniques for using clay media. The students will then make their creatures and place them within the Gallery’s own infinity room, which is a small, enclosed box that contains mirrors on 5 walls. The students will be able to see their creatures reflected endlessly in the mirror box. This activity is inspired by contemporary Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama. Kusama makes large gallery installations where she combines mirrors and colored lights to create beautiful galaxies that seem to expand forever. The goal of this activity is to allow students to play with clay materials. The instructors would also like to teach students about the about the importance of placing artworks in different locations and how that changes their meaning. At the end of this activity the students will be able to take home their creations along with an image of their creations in the infinity room.
