A Summer of Art: Surreal Creatures
06:00 pm-08:00 pmDescription
A Summer of Art • Surreal Creatures
10 August 2017, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
In this activity students will take part in a surrealist drawing game called “Exquisite Corpse” that was developed in the 1920s. This game is a group activity and will require students to work together. For this activity, each student in the group will be given a blank piece of paper. The students will then make a partial drawing of a surreal creature on their piece of paper and pass their paper on to another member in their group. The student who receives the drawing will then add the next part of the surreal creature that was started from the previous student. By the end of the activity, each student will end up with the piece of paper that they started with and that paper will contain a collaborative drawing of a unique, surreal creature. This activity was inspired by artists Andre Breton, Jacquine Lamba and Yves Tanguy. The goal of this activity is to show students how to work collaboratively on a drawing project. The Gallery instructors would also like to encourage students to have fun learning from one another.
