Kick off the summer season with Forces of Nature
Press Release
The National Gallery and Grand Old House kick off the summer season with Forces of Nature, an exhibition that features the work of five local photographers. Challenged with the wide scope of interpreting nature in her many forms, the talented individuals have each created a unique body of work that explores a wide variety of themes including human nature, parenthood, the beauty of nature, the power of the ocean and finally how nature herself can by ‘forced’ to change.
Their compositions sometimes derive their impact from sheer enormity, such as hurricane-force winds or the slow cascading water upon a rock, smoothing and carving its textured surface, leaving the viewer in awe of nature’s might, while others explore the magic of intimate scenes like the bond forged between a mother and child. The camera allows them to constrain certain elements and separate them from a larger context, giving each artist the power to explore their individual characteristics and produce unique images.
Each of the five exhibiting photographers, Lucy Best, Siobhan Timms, Tytia Habing, Justin Uzzell and Aston Ebanks have worked closely with the Gallery on previous exhibitions and were delighted to have the opportunity to participate collectively in the current exhibition.
‘Forces of Nature’ is curated by Natalie Coleman and sponsored by National Gallery board member Henry Harford who is delighted to “be supporting the continuing successful efforts of the Gallery.” The exhibition opens at Grand Old House on Thursday May 6th at 6pm and runs until August 24th.
