Patrice Donalds and Roger Thompson in Rawlinson Hunter’s Dancing to Art
Press Release
Patrice Donalds enjoys and is versatile in a wide range of dance forms and styles. Ever the restless artist, her artistic journey takes her down the path of connections as it relates to the human condition. Patrice notes, “It is my experience that reggae, salsa, soca, and rumba music, to name a few, is viewed by traditional modern dancers as only capable of stimulating superficial thoughts and arousing only basic or earthy emotions (sex). I challenge that view in all its forms. Language, music, art, poetry…gives us the freedom to communicate…aren’t we all just dying to connect?”
Roger Thompson’s unique style combines contemporary funk/street dance with a mix of New York/Cuban style Salsa. Respected, admired and loved for his passion for dance, he is now considered one of the leading Salsa teachers/dancers in the Cayman Islands.
“Dance is for everybody, mind and soul…you can’t hold it; you can’t control it… you can only share it…”
Senior Partner, Richard Douglas commented on Rawlinson Hunter’s decision to sponsor the exhibition in it’s entirety: “Having been an integral part of the Cayman Islands financial services industry for over 30 years, Rawlinson & Hunter has very strong ties to the local community, and to reinforce this commitment, we have recently chosen to support the growth and development of the National Gallery. We have a long history in the Islands, and felt that it would be the perfect partnership to support an organisation intent on preserving this rich history and culture.”
