From Within III

Works that encompassed the eight outreach programmes of the National Gallery

30 Jul – 10 Aug 2005

Exhibition

From Within III was the third in a series of exhibitions held annually from 2003–2008. For each iteration of this recurring project, the National Gallery organised a series of classes across its community outreach programmes led by both local and visiting artists– covering a myriad of topics such as painting, sculpture, carpentry, and digital media arts. The resulting artworks were then incorporated into successive exhibitions, each of which celebrated the progress of participants from these programmes by providing a public platform for audiences to admire their work.

From Within and its associated programmes were developed to extend opportunities and provide artistic outlets to vulnerable and marginalised members of the community. Utilising a combination of art therapy and art and design education, the classes strove to strengthen social, academic, and emotional skills, while also allowing the Gallery to listen and respond to the community and its needs.

Throughout the course of this ongoing community partnership, NGCI’s outreach programmes have included: Inside Art (HM Fairbanks Prison), Art Zone (District Programme), Art Alliance (Bonaventure Boys Home), Art Unbound (HM Northward Prison), Art Haven (Caribbean Haven), Art Unlimited (Francis Bodden Girls Home), Art Magnet (mixed teens), and Art Sisters (mixed adults).
