Exhibition
The National Gallery and the Cayman Brac Heritage House present a new Sister Islands’ Satellite Exhibition entitled In the Future Past: Bryony Dixon featuring a series of portraits providing an intimate glimpse into the everyday lives of generations of Caymanians.
Shot exclusively in black and white using a Mirrorless Nikon Z5 digital camera and a combination of older, adapted lenses from the 1970s and 80s, Bryony Dixon successfully evokes the antique feel of 35mm film to imbue his images with a timeless quality – an effect reinforced by the general absence of many of the trappings of contemporary life. Utilising soft focus to further foreground his subjects, Dixon’s candid portraits of local residents capture the faces of different generations of Caymanians, providing an intimate glimpse into their everyday lives.
