Exhibition
Ivan Remembered was an exhibition that commemorated the tenth anniversary of Hurricane Ivan. The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) curator Natalie Urquhart worked with photographers Courtney Platt and David Wolfe, whose stunning photos of the aftermath of the storm featured in NGCI exhibition Emergence (2004). The exhibition consisted of 45 fine art photographs, interspersed with quotes from the public about personal experiences — both challenging and uplifting — of Hurricane Ivan. A short film created by NGCI and Monster Media as part of Emergence featuring well-known local artists was also displayed. The development and mounting of the exhibition also formed part of the NGCI Summer Internship programme, which enabled student artists and curators to gain hands-on experience of art exhibition development by working alongside an NGCI curator. An opening reception was held on Saturday, 6 September 2014 from 6:00 PM–8:00 PM.
