Exhibition
The National Gallery was proud to be loaned a series of c. 200-year-old etchings by Goya as well as a rare example of Dali’s Caprices de Goya, which revisited the eighteenth-century series. This exhibition presented Goya’s original prints alongside the Surrealist set as well as the works of Cayman artists who had been invited to interpret Goya’s series, as Dali had done before them.
The exhibition was an excellent forum for discussion and supported a stimulating educational programme of lectures and workshops on a number of topics such as printing techniques, appropriation in art, Surrealism, appearance vs. reality, and the evolution of art over the last 300 years.
The exhibition was curated by Emérentienne Paschalides and was made possible by Cayman National. It ran from 22 May until 2 September with a special lecture by the curator on Saturday, 24 May at 5:00 PM in the National Gallery’s Dart Auditorium. Admission was free of charge.
