Exhibition
The Ogier Art Award was conceived by the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) in partnership with the offshore law firm Ogier to celebrate new developments in the Cayman Islands art scene. The exhibitions were inspired by Ogier’s Corporate Giving Philosophy, which supports the promotion and development of arts and culture within the community.
Each year artists were invited or nominated to submit work within the chosen theme. Entries were judged by a jury made up of Ogier partners and island-wide cultural administrators, and artists competed for a first, second, and third place monetary prize. Out of 82 artists in 2012, artists were awarded first and second-place prizes, along with a third prize for an ‘Emerging Artist’ who had exhibited and worked for less than two years. Judging consideration was given to skill, creativity, and artwork originality. Over the course of the award cycle, winning works from each year were purchased to form the basis of the Ogier Corporate Art Collection, which is now on display at Ogier corporate headquarters. Selected works were featured in an exhibition at Camana Bay for a period of two weeks in June 2012.
In partnership with Ogier, the National Gallery oversaw the administrative aspects of the competition during its operation.
