About the Exhibition
The 2020-2021 Walkers Art Club programme saw the resumption of in-person classes after two semesters of virtual learning in 2019-2020. This year’s studio skills included watercolour and acrylic painting, chalk and oil pastels, sculpture with paper mâché and wire, ceramics, and weaving. Taught concepts included still-life, colour theory, Caymanian Art History, environmental art and found object creation.
Over the course of the year, students engaged with and responded to five National Gallery exhibitions: Interior and Interiority, Alchemy: A Solo Show by Horacio Esteban, Homegrown, Reimagined Futures: the 2nd Cayman Islands Biennial, and Saltwater in their Veins.
Please join us in congratulating the students and instructors of Walkers Art Club 2020-2021 through this online celebration of their achievements.
About Walkers Art Club
This popular extracurricular art education programme offers students of all ages and abilities weekly art classes to enhance skills and expose students to both local and international artists. Participants are instructed by trained arts educators and are encouraged to express themselves, emphasizing creativity and experimentation through age-appropriate projects, themes and skills. Additionally, students make regular visits to the Exhibition Hall, and their work culminates in the annual Walkers Art Club exhibition. The classes and course materials are free to students thanks to the generous support from Walkers.
As part of the National Gallery’s mission to meet the diverse needs of the larger community, the programme includes five clubs: Foundation (5 to 7 years), Primary (8 to 10 years), Secondary (11 to 13 years), Teens (14 to 17 years) and Cayman Brac (8 to 10 years).
